About our ceiling painting
A ceiling is the least forgiving surface in a house. It takes raking light from every window in the room, which means lap marks, roller stops and thin spots that would vanish on a wall show up plainly overhead. The real work is keeping a wet edge across an entire plane and sealing water stains and smoke so they cannot bleed back up through new paint.
Ceilings come up when a stain appears under an upstairs bathroom, when cooking residue has yellowed a kitchen ceiling, or when a fresh wall color makes the dingy white above it impossible to ignore. Two-story entries and vaulted great rooms in newer subdivisions add height and access problems, and knockdown or orange-peel texture adds surface area that a roller has to keep fed.
Everything below the ceiling gets covered before a roller goes up, because overhead work and gravity are not negotiable. Stains are spot-primed with a stain-blocking primer rather than simply painted over, and each ceiling is rolled in one session, working away from the light. Where inland homes throw hard light from recessed cans and skylights, a flat sheen is what keeps the texture from glaring.

Why it pays off
No Lap Marks
Ceilings are rolled as a single continuous plane so the finish stays uniform. Stopping to reload in the middle of a ceiling is what leaves the ghost line you can never unsee.
Stains Sealed, Not Hidden
Water and smoke staining gets a stain-blocking primer before any color goes on. Sealing the stain is the only thing that keeps it from bleeding back through the new coat.
Texture That Matches
Repairs are retextured to match the surrounding orange peel or knockdown, so the ceiling reads as one surface rather than as a map of everything that has been fixed.

Floors, furniture, fixtures and counters are covered before the first roller goes up. Overhead work spatters, so containment is planned for rather than cleaned up afterward.

How we approach ceiling painting
The order matters as much as the materials. This is the sequence we follow, and the estimate spells out which steps your job needs.

Cover Below First
Floors, furniture, counters and fixtures are covered completely, and light fixtures are dropped or bagged. Rolling overhead throws fine spatter, and the only real way to control it is to mask for it.
- 02
Block the Stains
Water rings, smoke and tannin bleed are sealed with a stain-blocking primer. Painted over with a topcoat alone, those stains reappear within weeks no matter how many coats go on above them.

Repair and Texture
Cracks at drywall seams, nail pops and patched areas are repaired and the texture matched, whether orange peel, knockdown or smooth, so the fix reads as ceiling rather than as a patch.

Roll in One Pass
Each ceiling is cut in and rolled wet-into-wet from one side to the other without stopping mid-plane, using a nap depth matched to the texture so coating reaches into the low spots.

Check Under Light
The plane is inspected from several angles using the room's own lighting and from a low sight line. Holidays and lap marks only appear at a raking angle, which is precisely how you will see them later.
